What they do

The fascia is the board along the bottom edge of the roof that the gutters fix to. The soffit is the board underneath it that closes off the gap between the wall and the roof. Together they keep rain, birds and insects out of the roof space.

Signs they need replacing

  • Flaking paint and soft, rotten timber
  • Gutters pulling away because the fascia can't hold the screws
  • Birds, wasps or squirrels getting into the eaves
  • Gaps or sagging boards under the roof edge

Replace, don't cover over

Some firms clad over rotten timber with thin uPVC boards. It looks fine on the day, but the rot carries on underneath. We take the old boards off, check and repair the rafter ends, and fit full replacement uPVC fascias and soffits, with ventilation at the eaves so the roof space stays dry.

Done together

Fascias, soffits, gutters and dry verges (the plastic caps along the gable ends, which replace mortar that cracks and falls out) are usually best done in one visit, from one set of scaffolding. We'll quote them together and separately so you can choose.

Questions people ask

How long does it take to replace fascias and soffits?

For an average house, usually one to three days including new guttering, depending on the length of the roofline and the access.

What colours are available?

White is the most common, and black, grey, brown and woodgrain finishes are widely available. We'll bring samples to the inspection.

What are dry verges?

Plastic caps that fit along the edge of the roof at the gable end, replacing the mortar that traditionally held the edge tiles. Mortar cracks and drops out over time; dry verges are fixed mechanically and need far less maintenance.
