Why gutters matter

Gutters carry the water off your roof to the drains. When they overflow or leak, water runs down the brickwork and soaks into the walls, which leads to damp patches inside, stained brickwork and, over time, water pooling at the foundations.

Signs your gutters need attention

  • Water spilling over the edge in heavy rain
  • Drips from the joints between lengths of gutter
  • A gutter that sags or has pulled away from the fascia
  • Green or dark stains on the brickwork under the gutter
  • Plants growing out of the gutter

What we do

  • Clearing gutters and downpipes
  • Resealing or replacing leaking joints and unions
  • Re-fixing sagging runs on new brackets, with the right fall
  • Replacing cracked lengths, outlets and downpipes
  • Complete new uPVC guttering and downpipes

Autumn leaves are the main cause of blocked gutters, so late autumn is a sensible time to have them cleared. If your fascias are rotten behind the gutter, we'll show you, because new gutters need something solid to fix to. See fascias and soffits.

Questions people ask

Can a leaking gutter joint be repaired?

Usually. Joints on uPVC guttering have rubber seals that perish over time, and replacing the union or the seal often fixes the leak. If the gutter itself is brittle or cracked, replacing that length is better value.

How often should gutters be cleared?

Once a year is enough for most houses. Homes near trees may need it twice, typically after the leaves have fallen.

Do you replace cast iron gutters?

We can repair or replace cast iron. On listed buildings and in conservation areas, like-for-like cast iron may be expected rather than uPVC.
